The engagement session with the students of Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur held on 28th
of August, 2019 where more than 150 students participated enthusiastically from all the departments of University in the engagement session. The main agenda of the engagement session mobilized and sensitized the students to play their pro-active roles in promoting peace and diversity and countering the violent extremism through creative means. The students were briefed on the cultural diversity and the role of folk festivals through CVE approaches.
These training workshops were conducted on the comprehensive trainings of Theatre, Music, Photography and Painting. The participants in this training were briefed regarding the historical backgrounds, roles, cultural diversity and importance in today’s world. The participants encouraged and ensured their participation in the programs related to above mentioned trainings in the festival.
He Malik is a Musical Theatre Director, writer and arts manager, creator, founding Artistic Director of Thespianz Theatre and founding President of Thespianz Foundation. With a 24 years long cultural experience and education in Arts Management and Cultural Administration, he worked in various countries; he has directed 109 theatre plays, 71 dance performances and 412 workshops for teaching art and cultural performance.
Theatre Session Highlights:
A strong body of theatre actors formed in the shape of Theatre workshop in Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, attendees learnt face expressions, body movements, eye contact, and public speaking skills through many techniques. Student nominated Theatre society President and started working on their theatre play to stage it in I.I. Qazi Hall – SALU. As soon as they will be staging the few small plays, they will be able to work for long duration two or three act plays and sometimes.
Ammar Chishti is a Pakistani Commercial Theatre Actor, Musician, Director and Sound Designer. As a sound designer he has worked on several projects including feature films such as “Zindagi kitni Haseen Hai”, “Abdullah”, “Isharay Tumharey” and ”Mehrunisa We Lub U”. He has directed a Music video named “Uthao Awaz” and as a Sound designer his upcoming projects include feature film “Quetta”. He lead the music workshop for SALU students.
Music Session Highlights:
Music Workshop by Ammar Chishti mostly received underground singers from SALU and they were willing to professionally peruse singing career in Pakistani Drama industry/film industry/TV commercials. They learnt how to make practice on daily routine, History of Folk music, Different instruments played in Folk music, Brief demonstration for the final performance in the Thespianz SALU Folk Festival, Audition for the final performers, Selecting the final song for the event, Making groups for the event, Doing rehearsals on songs, Decide the parts for musicians and singers. Students not only learnt the above mentioned topics, but also made their mind to pursue music for promoting peace in society.
Nouman Mehmood is a Pakistani theatre artist and theatre playwright. He has been to America and Europe to gain theatrical exposure; He has written more than ten social theatre plays for highlighted blazing social issues in the country through indirect and comical manner. He also wrote five string puppetry plays on various social issues to address social issues among the young audience. He facilitated more than 200 theatre/motivational workshops for more than 4,343 students of all ages.
Motivational Session Highlights:
In Nouman Mehmood’s sessions, the attendees have been engaged in mesmerizing acting and theatre games, ice building activities, confidence booming practices and motivational warm-ups. He taught students how important is to behave confidently and how can they achieve their desire things by being confident in every stage of life. Students was very much encouraged after his session and described that they are already feeling encouraged and confident and stated that his motivational teachings will be certainly helpful for them in their entire life.
Irfan Zahid is a painting artist and Puppeteer. Graduated from National College of Arts NCA Lahore and joined a well-known brand in Dubai for furnishing their classical art pieces for their attire collection. He has learned the art of painting from well-known artists of Pakistan as well as internationally. He facilitated “Art of Peace” workshop with the SALU students and teach students how to promote peace and harmony through painting arts.
Art Session Highlights:
After art and painting session, student stated that they have learned how the Arts and Painting can play a significance role to promote peace and countering violence and extremism. Students learned from Irfan about basic drawing and sketching techniques and they have been to assigned a task in which they drew a peace calligraphy on a University’s old wall leading by the Irfan Zahid
